  Jameson Montreat, Head shifter of the Cause, Keeper of the Forest bound to Breath Coven (WOLF'S KEEPING) was looking for new recruits for the Cause. He had Aven keeping on eye on Dakota who was a potential candidate. The attraction between them was off the charts but she put the brakes on whatever was happening between them.
  
  She couldn't shift but that didn't stop Dakota from giving one hundred percent and beyond of herself in everything she did. She wanted to feel like she belonged and she finally found her place in the Believe coven. She was a Switch, that's why her lack of shifting.
  
  Together they had to face lots of hurdles but they had their family and friends there to help them every step of the way. Loved all the new directions this series is heading. Looking forward to the next installment. As always it was a treat to catch up with old characters and meet new ones.
  
  RAPTOR'S PEAK is the fourth book in Lisa Ladew and Grace Quillen's SWITCH OF FATE series. It was fantastic and engrossing. Nice job by the authors... Two thumbs up!
• I have felt or had the impression from previous books that Aven didn't feel as though he belonged with the others at the first Switches coven, so it was with bated breathe that I waited for this book. It was everything I could have hoped for and more, exciting, mysterious and magical. Suspenseful and mystical all rolled together to keep me spellbound throughout, so glad this came out for the Christmas holidays so I had time to savour. Dakota's unhappiness at her life not going where she expected or things that hadn't happened was real and desperate, as things started to unfold and she felt the changes she started to grow, becoming happier and more confident and boy did she show everyone her capabilities. I really loved this couple, they were so in tune with each other. So this book starts the next chapter and I cant wait for more.
• Aven is out of the Navy after an op gone wrong, during which his best friend Dallas was injured. He works as a ranger, giving him an advantage in his position with The Cause to keep an eye on the area and to keep watch for vampires. Then he gets a call from Dallas asking him to keep an eye out for his sister, Dakota, who is headed Aven's way.
  Dakota has spent the last ten years as a police officer in Arizona until she learns of The Cause from a shifter during a traffic stop. She quits her job and heads East with the shifter, giving her brother a call along the way. But Dakota has a secret that could prevent her being taken in by The Cause. It's something she isn't ready to share, even with her brother's SEAL teammate, Aven. And, as usual, Fate has a way of shaking things up, in spite of Dakota's dreams.
• Aven is an eagle shifter, and a park ranger, and a member of the Cause. His clandestine group of shifters and savage witches (switches) are gathering to eliminate the vampires who are infiltrating the human world. The Cause has cleared out some vamps but are searching for more. And more switches (who think they're human until they find they aren't) are arriving to join the Cause. Switches kill vampires with the help of shifters. Dakota is sure she's a shifter, her brother is.. Her inclusion in the Cause is, at first, confused, but her pairing with Aven soon clears the way. This is an interesting story of how expectations can change plans, events and conclusions. Aven is a great, self doubting but alpha hero and he is patient enough to bring Dakota right along with him. Well played.

• I love this series! I can't get enough of these characters and storyline. I am so happy there will be at least 15 books. Aven and Dakota were hot as hell. I love Dakota's strength and determination. Aven is such a kickass character. He is becoming a fast favorite. The story is gaining depth and a lot of suspense. I love the big fight in every book and the Prowl after. There are so many emotions felt in these books that I can't put them down. I impatiently look forward to the next book in this series.
• This is book 4 in the series and a great addition to the series. I love this series and need more and more. These authors do a great job with the story line and bringing in each new chapter, mixing favorite old characters with the new characters. This book is about Aven, the Raptor shifter and his mate. A sexy shifter with wings and a bad*ss vampire killing female, and all the hot and steamy moments needed for the prowl. What more could you want? This series is a must read!
• Well another amazing book comes to an end for me . Loved the other three to but this one was somehow a little different. Which is good. Diversity is a marvellous thing. Yes I can just imagine a book about Dallas and Maze. So many amazingly different directions in this book. Can't wait for the next books to come out. Aven and Dakota were truly amazing characters to. • This work advances a discussion about America's "baked in" religiousness, drawing on extensive sources. The bibliography itself is a valuable resource. It is written both for an academic audience and a more popular readership. Especially timely given the current conflicts in American ideology and political "faiths". I'm impressed!
• American Covenant is a book about American traditions and the thinkers and ideas that make up what the author calls civil religion. Civil religion is a complementary blend of religious narratives and political values drawn from the Bible and republican ideals that has consistently found expression in American thinkers as far back as the Massachusetts Bay Colony and as recently in the speeches of President Obama. The religious aspects of civil religion emanate from the “Latter Prophets” who emphasize individual righteousness and social justice. The political ideals of civil religion emanate from republican traditions which emphasize human sociability, civic virtue, and active citizenship.
  
  The author argues that civil religion is a more consistent, historically accurate, and sociologically plausible tradition than its rivals religious nationalism and radical secularism. Religious nationalism is idolatrous, historically inaccurate—America was never founded as a “Christian” nation—and ignores secular citizens. Radical secularism restricts religious freedom, is historically false—America was never founded as a purely secular nation—and ignores religious citizens. Readers who sympathize with religious nationalism or radical secularism will not like this book.
  
  If this book is an examination of American traditions, from what intellectual traditions does the author himself draw? Philip Gorski is a historical and cultural sociologist at Yale and American Covenant should be understood as a continuation of a dialogue begun by Robert Bellah whom first coined the term civil religion. The author also draws extensively from the historical methodology of Max Weber and his notion of ideal types yielding a history book that is conceptually rich and analytically illuminating in ways most history books are not.
  
  American Covenant is a unique blend of history and sociology and is destined to become a classic in both disciplines. There’s plenty here both for citizen and scholar to think about and his book couldn’t come at a better time. As American institutions both political and economic seem to be unravelling before our eyes, it’s good to know there are cultural traditions that Americans can draw from to help make sense of who we are and where we want to go.
• Gorski's book is important for scholars of American studies, American religion, and political science. It concisely covers civil religion, religious nationalism, and radical secularism, from the settling of America by the Puritans to the Obama administrations. Highly recommended!
• This book intrigued me for two reasons.
  
  1. I have lived on nearly every point on Gorski’s spectrum. At 18, I was rabidly antichrist and anti-American. At about 30, I wavered somewhere between a somewhat enthusiastic and a somewhat reluctant religious nationalist. I now consider myself a Christian Constitutionalist who is so dismayed by the state of the Church much less the state of American culture that I am no longer seriously trying to “take back” or “make America great again”.
  
  2. As a Christian educator I have spent the last twenty years grappling with the “Is or was America a Christian nation?” question. I figured Gorski would give me additional insight.
  
  The verdict?
  
  Even though he provided plenty of insight, I often found myself disagreeing with his presuppositions and rejecting his analysis. The coup de grace? His prescription for regaining the “righteous republic” or for “rebuilding the vital center” made me cringe in horror.
  
  Gorski is a social democrat who does not recognize traditional constitutional limits. Like so many Americans, he has swallowed the “living, breathing document” Kool-Aid. Yes, the US Constitution, like any good constitution, is not an exhaustive legal code; it is relatively broad, philosophical, and principled. Thus, there is some interpretational wiggle room. However, what many, including Gorski, mean by “living, breathing” is that we can, in pursuit of our social agendas, exercise broad powers that are not specifically enumerated. I reject this interpretation for five reasons
  
  1. Constitution means “with” and “to cause to stand or to set”; to arrange or settle. This very definition negates loose interpretations.
  
  2. If the Constitution was thought to be that ephemeral, why bother writing one at all?
  
  3. Why limit each branch to specific enumerated powers if changing circumstances permit the federal government to arbitrarily accrue for itself any powers deemed necessary? That would be like telling your son he can ride his bike on A and B avenues between X and Y streets only to then permit him to ride on any street he wants. That is nonsensical.
  
  4. Why bother having an amendment process? Ron Paul gave an excellent example. Prohibition was a stupid approach to solving a particular moral-social problem but at least Americans understood that Congress could not act unless it was given express powers to do so. Today, we assume Congress can regulate virtually anything including insurance which by its nature is intrastate commerce.
  
  5. During the ratification debates the most common argument against the need for a bill of rights was that it was unnecessary. Why? Because the federal government could only exercise powers expressly given to it.
  
  Gorski assumes that there is great latitude for compromise. I imagine he bemoans the extreme partisanship often displayed in Congress. But let us think about it. The statist finds it easy to compromise—regulate industry X a little versus regulate industry X a lot versus nationalize industry X. The constitutionalist cannot embrace any of those options because he respects liberty and property and jurisdiction he lacks the power to regulate at all. Although he may favor solving the problem, the fact that he is unwilling to solve the problem through force of law is enough to have him vilified as an enemy of progress. He is an anachronistic, cold-hearted, obstructionist who wants to keep your children illiterate and hungry and wants to throw your granny off the cliff. Frankly, I think we ought to thank God for people unwilling to exercise powers they do not have.
  
  What Gorski fails to realize is that a regulated matter is a politicized matter. People now have a vested interest in manipulating regulation so it favors them. This only exacerbates tensions as people jostle for position at the public trough. Moreover, and perhaps more important, using state power to provide people with so-called positive rights like health care or education destroys negative rights like the God-given right to own property. For example, suppose John Q Public, concluding that his local school is promulgating unconscionable worldviews, withholds his property tax. The state will foreclose on his home. His state imposed duty trumps his God-given right. Note, he may have a God-given duty but that does not mean the state has the authority to enforce it. That was my problem with Obama’s “to whom much is given, much is required” prayer breakfast speech. He was essentially claiming to be the instrument by which God requires.
  
  Finally, Gorski has a five-point plan for fighting political corruption. First, “banish big money”. Would people please stop equating money with influence. Only politicians up for sale can be bought. Besides, just as no amount of money can literally force you to purchase a product, nobody can force you to vote for a politician. If the proof of the pudding is in the eating then consider the last election Clinton’s war chest dwarfed Trump’s and yet the latter won. Second, “make civic holidays into holidays again”. By that he means forcing commerce to cease on such days since “In truth, little harm would be done to American commerce if holiday closings were reinstated, and much good might be done for its civic spirit.” Spoken (written) like a true elitist statist. I think Thursday and Black Friday sales are stupid. I would encourage people to resist the temptation and instead cherish the real meaning behind Thanksgiving. However, I would never use LAW to remove the right. Third, “make character education a part of civic education”. And who is to define “character”? The community? Well, that is literally social-ism since society is determining right or wrong, what is normal or deviant. And does not teaching kids character apart from the gospel suggest that man can be good apart from God? That original sin is either a myth or is something which can be overcome through sheer will power? If so, is that not human-ism? Fourth, “establish a universal system of national service”. Personally, I find the draft reprehensible but admit Gorski makes a good point. If everybody’s kids had been subject to the Vietnam draft then we mostly likely would have reevaluated that war. However, the fact that we must draft individuals to fight a war proves that the war is not as popular as some or even many believe.
  
  So, three stars on the historical analysis but two stars on the democratic socialist assumptions and prescriptions.
• Reading this book is both enjoyable and highly educational. It puts in perspective the reasons for the fractious, unproductive "debates" we have in our culture and politics these days. And it sheds light on the new/old understanding of American values and history that will be necessary if we're going to pull the country out of the rut in which we currently find ourselves.
• Reviewer is making a huge argument against regulation which approaches being his regulation of how to be American.
  The author has deceminated history for readers based on what has transpired in words and actions, the reveiwer's way of thinking is an argumentive pinhole focused on his bias for non regulation and the book has so much more than that to offer its readers and I for one was grateful to add it to my way of independent thinking.
• this is an engaging book full of relevant analysis and reflection. gorski's writing is clear and compelling. a must read!

"Most complete and newest version. I have found almost everything I have needed from this one manual. I would say the only downfall would be that they pretty much market their projectiles - rightfully so - but I have to cross reference my Lyman 50th edition to double check data if I am using a non hornady projectile... which is quite often. Aside from that this edition really does have a good amount of relevant load data that is fairly accurate. It should be a part of every reloaders library. I own the hardback edition and the kindle edition."

• This is quite handy to have on a phone or tablet for quick reference at the loading bench..It's relatively easy to navigate and search for particular cartridges. I really don't have any complaints about the e-book. It has the same information contained in the Hardback 10th edition book..one thing I particularly like is the inclusion of 5.56 NATO service rifle data..The data itself is laid out in an easy to read format, with plenty of anecdotal information on the various cartridges as well as little tips and cautions..Hornady does not indicate the "most accurate" charge nor do they give the actual velocity, but this is all subjective to any particular rifle anyway, so not really a big deal. All in all, this is a great source of data for Hornady bullets with several powders listed in just about any cartridge you can think of. If you have the 9th edition, you really won't be gaining a whole lot of new data.
• My first reloading manual was purchased in 1985. The Hornady 3rd Edition. I've purchased several other manuals since, but always considered the Hornady the top of the line. Looking through the version, I'm struck by a few of negative things first- 1 navigating on an iPod can be cumbersome Perhaps my version of needs an upgrade - but none of the sections in the table of contents will collapse, requiring you to scroll through a lot before getting to what you need. The desktop version is much easier. 2- many of the pistols used are identical to the 3rd edition, printed 38years ago. Seems odd. 3- of the few loadings I've compared, the 10th edition seems to be a bit more conservative. In spite of using the identical firearm as Edition 3, loadings are reduced by 8-9%. 4-there are no listings for a "+P" 9mm. Obviously, most of the negatives I've noticed are the result of comparing the new edition to the old. But, overall, the Hornady manual is still top shelf for me. The 4 stars are the result of the navigation issue on the portable devices. My only regret is not getting the hard copy over the kindle version. A product of getting older; no doubt.
• Won’t open on a kindle. It isn’t misformatted, it actually puts up a message about not being compatible and won’t open at all.
  
  Won’t open in app on iphone or ipad.
  
  They shouldn’t offer it in digital form if they can’t make it work/Haven’t tested it.
  
  Look elsewhere.
• Until a few days ago I was able to open this book but not it just crashes the app. I have tried removing the book and downloading it again with no luck. I removed the entire app and downloaded it again and then downloaded the book again and still no luck. The book seems to be incomparable now after the latest app update. I'm going to try to get my money back.
• Great resources for reloading Hornady bullets. For the calibers that I shoot, it offered a good variety of powders to choose from that ran the gamut of powder characteristics. I liked that. It even offered advice as to the best powder for subsonic 300 Blackout loads "We found that Accurate 1680 worked best for subsonic loads while still cycling the action.*" I found this to be true, at least with pistol length gas carbines (I have only tested these).
  
  The velocities are always at variance for me since I almost never have the same test conditions as the book, however, they tend to be close.
  
  The book even covers some of the discontinued bullets that you may still have in your inventory such as some of the A-Max's. And you may be happy to find the new ELD and ELD-X bullets somewhat extensively covered as well. One short-coming relevant to me is that load data for ELD-X 30 Caliber (308 Diameter) 220 Grain Boat Tail bullet is not provided for 300 Blackout loads. When I called Hornady (they have great customer support), I was told to use the 225 grain bullet as reference without making any compensation and I'd be good-to-go. I can't wait to test it with Accurate 1680 and Winchester 296 powders.

• Downloaded to PC Reader on several devices without issue.
  I have been using the hard copy book for reloading, but my portable reloading bench has limited space, and the book occupies a lot of real estate on it.
  With the version, I can bring it up on a the PC, laptop or iOS device to either use on the bench, or screen capture and print data I need at the bench without the unnecessary 1000+ pages.
  PROS
  Hornady quality and depth of information for Hornady products
  Frees up workbench space
  Data is much easier to handle on the bench
  Allows printing of only the needed data for reloading
  CONS - nothing significant, but -
  Updated at the same time as the hardcopy, printed 2016, likely with 2015 data.
  Newly produced bullets/powders may not be included. but should be "findable" online.
• All my reloading buddies were telling me this is the best option for new reloaders. I ignored them and used other resources. All my loads turned out okay, but it was apparent I needed some additional reference material. This is without a doubt the best one I've found. Covers a lot of options. Virtually every load I've ever heard of. I'll probably only use 10% of the information in the book, but that 10% has been very valuable. I'm sure experienced loaders will question some of the information, but if you're new or an intermediate loader this is a great addition to your library.

• This is a very fast read. My main complaint is that it reads like a 272 page Wikipedia article; you get information but there is no structure, narrative or original research. It starts with a history or crime in Russia and progresses forward explaining how the criminal gangs adapted to the structure of Russia/Soviet Union at the time. I came away with the impression that it is inevitable that Russia became a criminal state, but also feeling the thesis might be a bit too simplistic. It would have been interesting to at least interview some Russians and get their perspective or to provide some current events. Instead there are lots of generalizations repeated over and over as if to pad the book. So I'd say this was okay to get some background information but not the academic or insightful work I hoped for.
• Good read but nothing new if one is familiar with modern Russia. For those new to the autocratic, oligopoly that is Putin’s Russia then an excellent overview of how the state and organized crime are in essence two faces of the same coin.
• If you're a post middle-aged man with a fledgling intellect who gets giddy of every time the words 'Soviet' and 'corruption' appear in the same sentence, then this book may be for you. It reads like a rushed together 5th Grade book report. It's very redundant. Not a lot of information you couldn't find via a cursory Google search.
  
  This is an example of the publisher trying to take advantage of all the current hype around Russia by putting out a sub-standard 'beach read' with a title that sounds exciting, attempting to appeal to grown men who've taken to reverting to adolescent male fantasies during the twilight of their own efficacy.
  
  The author clearly has an ax to grind with the Soviets, which comes through in his writing. I personally wasn't looking for a commentary on the Soviet economic system by some pulp writer, but rather a detailed history of organized crime, which I did not receive.
  
  I would pass on this book. If you really want to read about 'The Thieves' you might as well read the relevant chapters from Gulag Archipelago.
• This is a magisterial book into the criminal aspects of Russian society. Crucial insights also into how criminality has seeped into the state. Makes one reflect about the similarities and differences between the state and a protection racket.
