A Glossary of the Construction Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor in All Countries and in All Times Dover Military History Weapons Armor George Cameron Stone 9780486407265 Books Reviews

  • I had this book when I was a kid but unfortunately misplaced it. It's the perfect companion when watching Forged in Fire to learn about the various exotic blades the smiths are asked to make.
  • Everything you wanted to know about arms and armor. Wow! It is really hard to put this down, but it is really easy to pick it up again. It is like a dictionary with illustrations. If you like going to museums where these items are on display, I would highly recommend this book as it will give the background as to why the weapon or armor was designed and made the way it was.
  • Colored pictures it does not have, the opinions are just that, opinions. There have been corrections voiced and made by reviewers since it's first printing, and yes, some of the pieces were mislabeled... but... there isn't another tome out there that can compare with the sheer volume of information, the drawings and old black and whites for ideas and visual guides. Every reinactor that I know has a copy on their shelf for quick reference of arms and armor... enough said. I own 3 as the first hardcover was stolen...
  • Ordered this from usbookkeeper, very impressed with this vender. Book was shipped promptly and packaged very well (bubble wrap and well fitted box. The book itself looks unread, and asside from a couple tiny tears in the dust jacket (noted in description) it looks pretty much new (I've seen new books in B&N that were in poorer condition). Would purchase again in a heartbeat. As to the book itself, a great resource even if all the information isn't 100% accurate. Worth every penny.
  • This is a great book.
I am working on constructing YAC armor in An tir. While it won't be super fancy, this book is helping me tremendously to figure out weapons construction and armor construction. The pictures are very clear and crisp. This a version that came out in the 60's. I have seen this book reprinted but it looked like copies of copies, this is not that way. Perfect condition, great pictures. great details.
  • Roleplaying fan, so bought this because its what Gary Gygax based his weapons on when creating DD/ChainMail.

Has some of the craziest things you never heard about inside. A nice coffee table (or cubicle) book to rummage through when you have a few minutes.
  • Glad I was able to get this. I first read this book in 1968, when I was 14 years old, to learn about the history of Japanese blades. Very detailed glossary, a MUST for arms collectors!
